I don’t know how close this statement is to the truth, but I doubt that Carver’s minimalist style is mainly formed because he is not eager to exchange novels for money when he is too nervous, so this minimalism is meaningless and can’t stand too much scrutiny, because it is just a slap in the face. In fact, if you pay attention to what is written around you, you will find that people with tight lives will write long stories the most. And the more I write, the more verbose I think the truth may be more complicated than this. I have never seen this sentence before.
